  • What is Window Film or Window Tint?

When used on buildings or homes the general term is Window Film as opposed to Window TInt. But Window Tint or tinting is a common generic term used by many consumers.

Window Films are composed of thin layers of optically clear polyester films material. These thin layers are generally treated with precious metals or ceramics and/or dyed. These optically clear polyester films with are laminated together using special adhesives and the film are protected by a durable, scratch-resistant coating.

Window film is generally installed to the inside of windows and doors, offering immediate protection from the harmful and uncomfortable effects of the Sun. Window films reflect up to 78% of the sun's heat, allowing you to more effectively control the temperature throughout your home.

  • How is Window Film applied?

Window film is to be professionally applied by skilled, authorized Dealers.

Almost all films are designed to be applied to the inside of your glass. The window area is prepared - moving furniture or blinds as necessary and placing drop sheets or cloths under the window area. Next the window is cleaned using water based cleaning solutions, a scrubby pad and razor blade. The edges are dried and the cleaning solution is squeegeed away.

In most applications the Window Film is pre-cut a little bigger than the window actual size. A water based slip solution and the Window Film are applied to the glass. Professional techniques are then used to remove the excess solution, trim film edges and final edge drying.

  • How long does it take for Window Film to dry after installation?

On average we ask our customers to allow about thirty days for the film to fully dry and cure. During the curing process, it is normal to have small water bubbles and/or a hazy appearance appear under the film. These will disappear as the film dries. It is possible however for the curing process to take a little longer (up to 45 days) depending upon the film type and weather conditions. Once dried, your Window Film will look great and perform for many years to come.
  • Will my windows be darker after Window Film is applied? Will the Window Film be visible?

Our goal is to maintain as much naturalness and clarity as possible on your windows. If you have high windows, often times the glare and heat of the sun requires us to install a more tinted/reflective film.

However, it is still our goal to apply a film that provides you with the protection you need, without taking away in any sense the quality and tone of light, or in any way detracts.

Having said the above: In most residential applications we commonly use window films that are virtually invisible. These films tend to reject about 50% of Solar Heat and 99% of UV light.

  • How does Safety and Security Window Film work?

Safety and Security Window Films are designed to make glass shatter-resistant by holding the glass pieces together when broken. These films are made with thicker polyester films and more powerful adhesives than traditional window film. Engineered with these powerful adhesives, safety and security films are laminated to the interior surface of your windows or doors, reducing the hazards associated with broken glass by holding dangerous glass shards to the film surface and helping to keep the broken window pane within its frame.

Safety and Security window films are available in varying degrees of thickness and shading to meet the needs of every customer. The thickness of the film determines the level of safety and security protection. The thicker the film the stronger it will be in preventing the dangers associated with glass breakage. The shade of the film determines the solar control properties.

  • Does Window Film require special cleaning?

Not really. Window films are extremely scratch-resistant and may be cleaned with common window cleaning methods, non-abrasive paper towels, or window washing with squeegee . Caution should be exercised to prevent extreme gouging by hard, sharp, metallic objects.
  • What warranty is included with the Window Film?

Residential: Up To a life-time warranty depending on the film type used.

Commercial: On average the commercial warranties are about 10 years depending on Film type used.

Manufacturer Warranty against: Peeling Bubbling Rippling Cracking Adhesive failure Delamination Demetallization.

The warranties above are based on the average Basic Film Warranty, some exceptions do apply. We will discuss and provide warranty information at time of quotation. Customers are provided a Window Film warranty card specific to their installation after the installation is complete and paid for.

  • Can I purchase Window Film from Solar Trends and install myself?

    Not at this time.
  • Does Window Film stop Fading?
